AVH is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital (CAH) in the White Mountains of northern NH.  In 2015, AVH is distinguished to be named one of nation’s Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals (2011 - 2017), one of the 7 Best Large Companies to Work for in NH (2011) by Business NH Magazine, and one of the top 6 Hospitals in New Hampshire for 2016 according to www.onlyinyourstate.com. US News and World Report has ranked New Hampshire the 2nd best state to live in within the United States.

We are located about 2.5 hours from Manchester, NH (most accessible airport for commercial flights); Portland, Maine; and Burlington, VT.  AVH is located about 3.5 hours from Boston and Montreal.

AVH’s primary service area is about 16,000.  The city of Berlin has a population of about 10,000.  The White Mountains offer 4 seasons, family friendly towns, excellent student/teacher ratios in local schools, no state income tax, and abundant outdoor recreation (skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, fishing, hunting, canoeing, ATV riding, camping, and more).  Outlet shopping is only 42 miles away.  Reasonable access to Boston; Montreal; Portland, Maine; Burlington, Vermont; and NH seacoast. AVH has a 21-member specialty/surgical practice, AVH Surgical Associates, located on the hospital campus.  There are 30 physicians on our Active Medical Staff. We are a member of the New Hampshire Hospital Association and licensed by New Hampshire Division of Public Health, New Hampshire Board of Pharmacy and Federal Drug Enforcement Agency. We are accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) of the New Hampshire Department of Health & Human Services, College of American Pathologist (CAP) “With Distinction”, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA).
