Athens Limestone Hospital
Founded over 55 years ago, Athens-Limestone Hospital is a progressive, fully accredited 101 bed facility, offering a full range of diagnostic and patient services. Recently added services include a 30,000 square foot Wellness Center that houses Wellness Membership, Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine.
Athens-Limestone Hospital is a 100-bed facility with a ten-bed ICU and is equipped with an Aquilion CT scanner and Signa Continuum MRI facilities in the newly expanded Radiology Department. Our mission is to provide integrated access to quality health and wellness services for Limestone County and surrounding areas.
The city of Athens has a population of approximately 50,000 people and is located in Limestone County, which has a population of around 76,000. Limestone County is bordered by the rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains to the North and the Tennessee River to the South. The area offers an abundance of water recreation, hiking, golfing, and family oriented sports activities.
Athens is the county seat of Limestone county and is a short 1.5 miles West of Interstate 65. In addition to activities in town, our proximity to the Interstate brings many other options for activies. Birmingham, AL and Nashville, TN are each less than 90 miles away. Huntsville, AL, the "Space Capital of the South" is a short 30 minute drive. There you will find many shopping and entertainment choices and cultural attractions.
Athens offers an award-winning public school system and access to several state universities. Athens State University, established in 1822, is Alabama's oldest institution of higher learning.
While Athens has an agricultural history, in recent years Athens has attracted major industry that has diversified the population. With all the diversification Athens has to offer, no wonder Athens is truly a city of Southern Splendor.
