Banner Children's at Desert Medical Center features 248 beds, specially trained nurses and doctors and family-centered care as well as an expanded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – from 65 beds to 86 beds.

Banner Thunderbird Medical Center is the fourth largest hospital in the Phoenix metropolitan area with 513 licensed beds. No one in the West Valley provides the level of care to kids that Banner Thunderbird does. Within the hospital is the highly regarded Banner Thunderbird Children’s Center, a dedicated area for pediatrics that includes 40 pediatric inpatient beds and the West Valley’s only pediatric intensive care unit capable of caring for the most critically ill or injured children. In addition, Banner Thunderbird has a separate emergency department for children.

Banner Thunderbird realizes that many factors contribute to patients’ healing and our hospital reflects that with natural light, soothing paint colors, relaxing artwork and private rooms, when available. A recently completed $290 million expansion project added a spacious and comfortable main lobby, a patient/family library, a heart and vascular center, state-of-the-art surgical suites and a 200-bed patient tower to the campus. The new tower includes a new Emergency department and all-private rooms featuring large windows, comfortable seating/sleeping areas for loved ones, wheelchair-accessible bathrooms, nurse stations outside every room, and 32-inch flat panel televisions.
