The Department of Medicine is a statewide community of over 1,200 faculty (MSU employed and Clinical Adjunct non-prefix and prefix faculty) and academic and support staff who provide a world-class education to over 900 remarkable learners (>845 medical students and 61 residents and fellows in our sponsored and affiliated programs) at eight community campuses.

Our mission is to improve the health of individuals, their families, and the community. To do this, we educate, train and inspire learners, provide high-value patient-centered care, and conduct research dedicated to improving health. In East Lansing, we provide key service lines in Primary Care, Infectious Diseases, Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Hematology-Oncology, and tissue typing laboratory services.

MSU COLLEGE OF HUMAN MEDICINE INFORMATION

Founded in 1964, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine is nationally recognized as one of the nation's pioneers of community-based medical education.

Among the 155 medical schools in the country, MSU College of Human Medicine ranks sixth when it comes to “social mission” for producing doctors who are minorities, practice primary care and work in underserved areas, according to a 2010 study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

The college's footprint spans the state of Michigan. Clinical practice, research and undergraduate and graduate medical education takes place across seven campuses through affiliations with local hospitals, physicians, and other health care providers. These community campuses are located in Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Midland Regional, Southeast Michigan, Traverse City and the Upper Peninsula Region.

Lansing is the central location for clinical services through the university's health team.

Beginning in 2007, the college underwent one of the largest MD medical school expansions in the nation and doubled the size of its enrollment by fall 2013, educating approximately 800 future physicians.  The alumni population for MSU College of Human Medicine is nearly 6,055 Spartan MDs.
