The James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center consists of a parent site, located in Altoona, PA and five community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) located in DuBois, Huntingdon, Indiana, Johnstown, and State College, PA. With approximately 675 employees, the Altoona VAMC is one of the largest employers in the area. The medical center serves Veterans from a 14 county area in Central Pennsylvania, providing exceptional health care in the areas of Acute Care, Behavioral Health, Diagnostic Services, Urgent Care, Long Term Care, Pharmacy, Primary Care, Social Services, Specialty Care, and Women's Health. 

Altoona is located in the Allegheny Mountains of Central Pennsylvania.  With an area population of over 50,000, it is large enough to provide first rate entertainment and cultural activities, a minor league baseball team, numerous community activities and resources, and outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities.  Yet, it is small enough to provide affordable housing, excellent school systems, and minimal commuting times.  Altoona is approximately a 2 hour drive to Pittsburgh, PA and 3 hours to Washington, DC.
