Menomonie is nestled along the shores of Lake Menomin and the banks of the scenic Red Cedar River in west central Wisconsin. Started as a logging town and once dubbed "the Queen of the Pinery," today's economy comes from agriculture, education, manufacturing and service businesses, recreation and tourism. A community of 15,000, Menomonie supplements its business, social and recreational activities with those of Minneapolis/St. Paul, 60 miles west and Eau Claire, 25 miles east. Rochester, Minn., is 85 miles southwest.

Menomonie's Main Street has been designated a national Downtown Historic District. The recently renovated Main Street, with its historic downtown shops, serves as the community cultural center. In fact, Main Street stretches from Lake Menomin to the University of Wisconsin-Stout campus.

UW-Stout is a vital part of the Menomonie community, with many cultural events sponsored by the University throughout the year. Three bustling industrial park areas and a growing technology park provide ongoing job growth, and prospects for community growth are good. Major employers in Menomonie include 3M, ConAgra Foods, Wal-Mart Distribution Center, Andersen Windows, Cardinal Glass, Ford Motor Parts Company, Menomonie School District, University of Wisconsin-Stout, and the Red Cedar Medical Center - Mayo Health System.
