Punxsutawney Area Hospital

Punxsutawney Area Hospital is a 49-bed, not-for-profit community hospital located in Punxsutawney, Jefferson County PA- approximately 90 minutes northeast of Pittsburgh. The Hospital serves the residents of Jefferson, Clearfield, and northern Indiana Counties. For five consecutive years, Punxsutawney Area Hospital has been ranked a Top 20 Rural and Community Hospital by the National Rural Health Association.

Punxsutawney, PA, famous the world over for its quirky Groundhog Day celebration, was originally a Native American campsite. Situated halfway between the Allegheny and Susquehanna rivers, its location made it convenient for travel; in fact, the town is located on the earliest known trail to the east, the Shamokin Path. Punxsutawney was officially incorporated as a borough in 1850.
