St. David's Medical Center
St. David's Medical Center is a JCAHO accredited medical campus which includes the 309-bed acute care St. David's Hospital, the 62-bed St. David's Rehabilitation Hospital, and the 40-bed St. David's Pavilion which offers geriatric psychiatric care. St. David's Medical Center (SDMC) is centrally located in the heart of Austin on Interstate 35 at 32nd Street, just north of the University of Texas. SDMC has been providing outstanding healthcare to the Austin community for over 75 years. SDMC, with its compilation of excellent physician, nursing, and ancillary staff is able to manage a variety of patient needs. Specialty services include cardiology, neurosciences, rehabilitation, orthopedics, general surgery, as well as an extensive women's health program, offering such services as Assisted Reproductive Technologies and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The ability for SDMC to care for Central Texas will be further enhanced with the completion of the $65 million dollar expansion project currently underway. Highlights of this project include: Doubling the capacity of the Emergency Department, creating a "Fast Track" section to handle minor illnesses and injuries, and a Chest Pain Center Adding Neonatal Intensive Care Unit beds Additional operating rooms for optimum utilization Enhancing/expanding outpatient imaging Providing additional parking SDMC was recently ranked fifth out of 172 HCA facilities in both inpatient and emergency care services. In addition, the medical center was ranked as a "best practice" hospital in 16 key areas. Other recognition by the Austin community includes being named "Best Hospital in Austin" (West Austin News) and "Best Place to Give Birth in Austin" (Austin Family magazine).
