St Joseph’s Medical Center is seeking a Program Director to help launch an Addiction Medicine Fellowship.
Position Overview:
The Addiction Medicine fellowship program director (PD) will be responsible for the creation and maintenance of a program that fosters the education of fellows who will provide service and care to a diverse population of patients across our community who experience the effects of substance use disorders. This includes the prevention, clinical evaluation, treatment, and long-term monitoring of this patient population, from those at risk, to those with advanced and complicated disease, to those in recovery. The work environment will include direct patient care, public health and community outreach, didactic education and supporting fellows with quality improvement and scholarly activity. The fellowship will be 12 months in length and the PD will be responsible for maintaining accreditation standards under ACGME and SJMC GME guidelines.
Clinical and faculty appointment in primary specialty available (e.g., psychiatry, family or internal medicine, emergency medicine).
Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain the curriculum for the addiction medicine fellowship program, ensuring compliance with national accreditation standards and guidelines.
Recruit, select, and mentor fellows, providing guidance and support throughout their training.
Coordinate and facilitate didactic sessions, clinical rotations, and research opportunities for fellows.
Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, academic institutions, and community organizations to enhance the fellowship program's resources and partnerships.
Conduct regular evaluations and assessments of fellows' progress, providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for improvement.
Lead and participate in scholarly activities, including research projects, publications, and presentations.
Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements and best practices in addiction medicine, incorporating them into the fellowship program.
Qualifications:
Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited institution.
BC/BE in Addiction Medicine
Previous experience in teaching, mentoring, or program leadership, preferably in a fellowship or residency setting.
Strong knowledge of addiction medicine principles, evidence-based practices, and current research.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for fellows.

There are 9 residency programs including Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Emergency Medicine residencies. There is a medical toxicology service with 4 board-certified medical toxicologists. We are an established California Bridge program for medication-assisted-treatment (MAT) and have an on-site substance use navigator (SUN) in the ED and for the inpatient services. There is a community respite center and several MAT referral centers within Stockton.
