Job Description

The VA Saint Louis Health Care System is a 2 Campus, full-service tertiary referral center with 4 Community Based Outpatient Clinics, providing advanced inpatient and ambulatory care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, neurology, and rehabilitation, as well as over 65 subspecialty areas, including the VA's busiest interventional cardiac program, interventional radiology and radiation oncology.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Work Schedule: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

  • Operates or directs the operation of diagnostic equipment for medical procedures which may include:
    • Central venous line insertion and management
    • Diagnostic Heart Catheterization with Coronary Angiography
    • Coronary Artery Interventions including High Risk percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and chronic total occlusion (CTO) interventions
    • Intracoronary imaging and physiologic testing
    • Intra-arterial lines insertion and management
    • Interpret EKGs
    • Cardioversion
    • Use of thrombolytic agents
    • Pericardiocentesis
    • Arterial puncture
    • Temporary trans venous pacemaker placement
    • Intra-aortic balloon pump insertion and management
    • Insertion and management of ventricular assist devices.
    • Peripheral arterial interventions preferred
    • Structural Heart Interventions Preferred
    • Stress test interpretation
  • Collaborate with midlevel providers and physician colleagues with clear communication and documentation.
  • Supervises cardiology fellows and interventional cardiology fellows and participates in their fellowship education per graduate medical education guidelines.
  • Performs the administrative components of patient care management.
  • Participate in the educational programs for the section personnel as well as the medical staff.
  • Participate in monitoring the quality, safety and appropriateness of patient care, both at the Section and facility level.
  • Attend Cardiology team meetings.
  • Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.
  • Attend Medicine Service monthly staff meetings and COS quarterly meetings as per bylaws.
  • Complete medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff.
