The Lawrence General Hospital Emergency Center is a 41 bed Emergency Room that serves 67,000 visits annually. Features of the Emergency Center include 3 expanded trauma/resuscitation rooms, a dedicated area for CT and X-ray, ED Observation Unit, dedicated Behavioral Health team, and a newly expanded Vertical Area for patient care.

Emergency Medicine Team

The Emergency Medicine team includes over 40 Emergency Physicians and APPs all of whom are under the direction of the Chief of Emergency Medicine. Emergency Physicians in the LGH and HFH Emergency Center bring administrative and quality support in the fields of EMS, Ultrasound, International Emergency Medicine, Wilderness Medicine, and Quality and Patient Safety. Family Medicine Residents from the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center also rotate through the LGH Emergency Center.

Job Overview

  Holy Family Hospital, part of the (HFH) / Lawrence General Hospital (LGH) system is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Director to lead the Emergency Departments at our Methuen and Haverhill campuses. In this key leadership position, you will be responsible for clinical and operational performance, ensuring the highest quality of patient care and promoting a culture of excellence. This position reports to the System Chief of Emergency Medicine for HFH and LGH.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide clinical and administrative leadership across both Methuen and Haverhill Emergency Departments.
• Develop and implement evidence-based protocols, policies, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Oversee physician and APP (Advanced Practice Provider) staffing, scheduling, performance evaluation, and retention.
• Monitor and improve key performance metrics, including patient throughput, quality measures and satisfaction.
• Foster collaboration across departments, including nursing, inpatient services, and hospital administration.
• Participate in hospital-wide emergency preparedness and strategic planning.
• Mentor and guide Emergency Medicine physicians and APPs in clinical best practices and professional growth.
• Contribute to on-call administrative responsibilities as designated.
• Serve as a liaison between the ED and hospital leadership, maintaining clear communication and alignment with organizational goals.

Qualifications

• MD or DO with Board Certification in Emergency Medicine.
• Minimum of 3+ years of clinical experience in Emergency Medicine, including leadership roles.
• Proven track record in ED operations, quality improvement, and effective team leadership.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Prior experience in ED administration or quality initiatives is preferred.
