Opportunity Highlights:

  1. One to two years General Surgical or Surgical Subspecialty First Assistant preferred. New graduates who are dedicated and attentive to becoming proficient as a First Assistant will be considered.
  2. Successful candidate will be responsible for: hospital rounds, admitting/discharging patients, bedside procedures, consults (hospital, ER, ICU). Evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of surgical patients in conjunction with attending surgeons and APP providers.
  3. Hernia, cholecystectomy, colectomy, RNY, PD catheter insert, hemorrhoidectomy, appendectomy (70-90 cases per month)
  4. I&D, Wound Care including wound debridement and drainage

The purpose of the Advanced Provider is to assist the physicians of the practice with clinical activities, surgeries and other direct patient care including diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventative care. Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners work under the direct supervision of practice doctors.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Perform patient history and physical examinations
  2. Diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic health problems
  3. Order, and interpret laboratory and radiology tests
  4. Prescribe medication, including controlled substances as delegated in collaborative practice agreement
  5. Document assessment, management, and education clearly, concisely, and legibly within medical record
  6. Demonstrate strong communication skills with patients and significant others to provide feedback regarding findings and treatment plans
  7. Assess the patient and significant other s psychosocial, emotional, and environmental needs
  8. Consult other health care team members in collaboration with physician to meet physician needs, while ensuring continuity of care
  9. Provide phone triage to assess patient s needs and conditions and respond appropriately
  10. Coordinate patient care activities with other members of the office, hospital, or community
  11. Provide education to patients, families, and community groups.
  12. Demonstrate compliance with documentation and coding requirements
  13. Maintain and update skills and knowledge
  14. Work with all members of the team to achieve patient centered care as well as quality care by using the best practice standards and case management
  15. Contribute to scheduled team meetings to discuss/clarify roles, responsibility, processes, and patient issues
  16. Provide care management by communicating with community agencies as appropriate
  17. Participate in quality improvement activities and committees
  18. Hospital rounds to support the needs of the practice
  19. On-call duties including emergency call and telephone call, to support the needs of the practice

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  1. Must be able to exercise a high level of independent judgment
  2. Exceptional service attitude and communication style
  3. Maintains highest level of confidentiality
  4. Excellent written and verbal skills
  5. Demonstrates clinical competency as defined by organizational standards and protocol
  6. BLS Certification
  7. Maintain CME requirements
  8. Professional appearance and demeanor

Education and Experience:

  1. Current NYS license and board certification
  2. Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program
  3. Current BLS Certification
