Job Description

  5. Practice Detail:  Great Lakes Cancer Management Specialists is a longstanding and well respected medical practice in southeast Michigan. It currently comprises eight board certified medical oncologists and hematologists. There are four practice locations over the metropolitan Detroit area. 
  6. EMR System: Onco EMR and Cerner
  7. Facility: Ascension St. John Hospital
  8. Location: Detroit, Michigan

Great Lakes Cancer Management Specialists is currently recruiting for a position located at two or more of its four locations. St John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit has a Hematology/Oncology fellowship program and opportunity to participate as faculty in this program.


Position Highlights:

  1. 4-day schedule for clinical activity both in the inpatient and outpatient setting
  2. The practice is interested in an experienced board certified candidate in Hematology and Medical Oncology who is interested in developing a practice based on patient focused care as well as teaching at the resident and fellowship level.
  3. It is anticipated that a motivated individual with the assistance of the practice and its partnership with Ascension St John would be able to quickly develop a fulfilling clinical practice.
  4. GLCMS would provide support and coverage in order to help facilitate a successful transition.

Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluates and treats patients with appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills. Coordinates discharge planning with case management.
  2. Recommends, participates in, and works to ensure the success of efforts to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care provided to patients.
  3. Accepts patient referrals from other physicians. Acts as admitting, attending and/or consulting physician for patients who require hospitalization for primary medical diagnoses, depending on needs of patients, medical staff and hospital.
  4. Participates in academic programs (e.g. medical education and research) as requested.
  5. Provides appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.
  6. Participates in inpatient and outpatient consultation for specialty, which may include on call schedules.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Required Credential(s):
Physician MD/DO with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Michigan Board of Medicine obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
Preferred Credential(s):
Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA).

Education:
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) required.


Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency program

Completion of an accredited Hematology/Oncology fellowship program

BC Internal Medicine and BE/BC Hematology/Oncology

Interest in teaching
