Job Description

 

Ballad Health Medical Associates is seeking a Program Director to lead the next generation of Family Medicine Physicians at the Lonesome Pine Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in Norton, Virginia.

The Program Director must have accountability for: administration and operations; teaching and scholarly activity; resident recruitment and selection; evaluation and promotion of residents; disciplinary action; supervision of residents, and resident education in the context of patient care.

Qualified candidates must have:

  • Specialty expertise and at least three (3) years of documented educational and/or administrative experience.
  • Have current certification by the ABFM or AOBFM, medical licensure, and eligibility for appropriate medical staff appointment.
  • Ongoing clinical activity.
  • Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary, interprofessional team to create an educational environment that promotes high-quality care, patient safety, and resident well-being.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a role model of professionalism.
  • Reports accurate and complete information required and requested by the DIO, GMEC, and ACGME.
  • Participate in academic societies and in educational programs designed to enhance their educational and administrative skills.
  • Take an active role in curriculum development, resident teaching and evaluation, continuous program improvement, and faculty development.
  • Design and conduct the program in a fashion consistent with the community’s needs, the mission(s) of the Sponsoring Institution, and the mission(s) of the program.
  • Promote a learning environment conducive to educating the residents on each of the ACGME competencies.
  • Develop and oversee a process to evaluate candidates prior to approval as program faculty members for participation in the residency program education and at least annually thereafter.
  • Guide annual faculty evaluations, both written and shared verbally with colleagues/faculty within the program’s structure.
  • Evaluate and address the supervising interactions and/or learning environment that does not meet the program’s standards.
  • Promote a learning and working environment where residents feel comfortable raising concerns and confidentially providing feedback as appropriate, without fear of intimidation or retaliation.
  • Promote the program’s compliance with the Sponsoring Institution’s policies and procedures related to grievances and due process.
  • Promote the program’s compliance with the Sponsoring Institution’s policies and procedures for due process when action is taken to suspend or dismiss, not to promote, or not to renew the appointment of a resident.
  • Promote the program’s compliance with the Sponsoring Institution’s policies and procedures on employment and non-discrimination; (Residents must not be required to sign a non-competition guarantee or restrictive covenant.)
  • Dedicate no less than 20 hours per week to the administrative and educational activities of the Family Medicine educational program and receive institutional support for this time.
  • Supervise and delegate responsibilities to Core Faculty and faculty.
