Primary Care Sports Medicine
Marshall Orthopaedics, a university-affiliated physician group, is currently seeking qualified candidates for a primary care sports medicine position within our department. This position will offer the opportunity to become involved in sports medicine coverage responsibilities at Marshall University and local high schools. This position's practice location, Rivers Health in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, is roughly an hour commute from Marshall University's academic medical center and athletic facilities. It is anticipated that this position's practice scope will be 30% primary care sports medicine and 70% general primary care.
Marshall Orthopaedics is an academic department affiliated with the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. We support an orthopaedic residency and train 3 residents per year. Additionally, the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine supports a primary care sports medicine fellowship program that trains 1 fellow per year. Via the employment of over a dozen sports medicine physicians and over two dozen athletic trainers, the department's sports medicine division currently provides sports medicine coverage to Marshall University's NCAA Division I athletic programs and numerous high school programs throughout the region. Applicants must have a medical degree (allopathic or osteopathic) or foreign equivalent and have successfully completed a family practice residency. Fellowship training in primary care sports medicine is required. Applicants should have a strong interest in clinical care and teaching. Applicants must be able to obtain a full and unrestricted West Virginia medical license.
