Position Overview:
The Guthrie Medical Group is seeking a dedicated and experienced Advanced Practice Provider (APP)—Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Associate (PA)—to join our dynamic General Surgery/Surgical Oncology inpatient team. This is a full-time, no-call position focused on collaborative, patient-centered care alongside surgical residents and attending physicians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality inpatient care to post-operative and acutely ill surgical patients in the General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Colorectal, HPB (Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary), and Endocrine Surgery services.
- Collaborate closely with surgical residents and attendings as an integral part of the multidisciplinary care team.
- Support and enhance patient care during times when residents are in the operating room or participating in protected educational activities.
- Assist with:
- Daily patient rounds and clinical assessments
- Progress notes, admission and discharge documentation
- Discharge planning and coordination with case management and social work
- Act as a clinical resource for residents and other team members regarding routine post-operative care and inpatient management.
- Communicate and coordinate with outpatient surgical APPs to ensure continuity of care and appropriate post-discharge follow-up.
- Interface with consulting services and ancillary departments to support comprehensive inpatient care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and team-based problem-solving.
Qualifications:
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant preferred.
- National certification as an NP or PA (e.g., AANP, ANCC, NCCPA).
- At least 1 year of experience in an inpatient, surgical, or hospital medicine setting is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience with post-operative management and complex surgical patients is highly desirable.
- BLS/ACLS certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
