System Medical Director, Orthopedic Surgery

Job Description

Atlantic Health System is seeking an accomplished and visionary System Medical Director of Orthopedic Surgery to lead the strategic development and growth of our Orthopedic Service Line. This physician leader will be responsible for driving the implementation of system-wide initiatives that enhance quality, innovation, and personalized care while advancing the mission of building healthier communities. The role includes the opportunity to remain clinically active to maintain a high level of clinical credibility across the system. Additionally, the System Medical Director of Orthopedic Surgery will support development and recruitment across the full spectrum of orthopedics, including joint replacement, spine, upper and lower extremity, sports medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, trauma, pediatrics, and oncology.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and drive the strategic vision for Orthopedics across Atlantic Health System in collaboration with system medical center Chairpersons, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals in quality, performance, growth, population health, research, and education.
  • Market Analysis and Growth: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the competitive landscape, identifying key opportunities and mitigating risks to strengthen program offerings and market share.
  • Collaboration and Engagement: Foster strong partnerships with medical center leaders, ambulatory sites, medical groups, and system-wide clinicians to enhance service integration and care delivery while decreasing clinical variation.
  • Clinical Excellence and Innovation: Support the organization’s mission by advancing high-quality, patient-centered, and innovative care models that improve health outcomes.

   

Salary Range: $500,000–$1,000,000 base salary only; excludes any quality and/or productivity incentives

 

  Qualifications:

  1. Board certification in Orthopedic Surgery.
  2. Proven leadership in clinical program development, strategic planning, and physician engagement, with a strong commitment to advancing orthopedic services.
  3. Strong business acumen with the ability to understand market trends and drive programmatic growth.
  4. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  5. Track record of physician leadership with progressive leadership experience in a large, highly-matrixed healthcare system, preferably with mature service lines.
  6. Experience with residency programs or other training programs.
  7. Master’s degree in healthcare related fields or business, preferred.
  8. All candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of New Jersey.
