Anesthesiologists for The University of Iowa Medical Center
THE BASICS: Locums Anesthesiologists for the University of Iowa Medical Center | $375/hr. + travel, lodging, vehicle | Med Mal covered | Any state license.
WHY THE NEED: The Facility is understaffed due to a combination of factors, including an aging population requiring more care and a shortage of trained Anesthesiologists.

COMPENSATION
$375/hr with travel and lodging reimbursement
Overtime is not anticipated; however, if you happen to work over 50 hours per week, overtime pay is $450 per hour.
We cover Med Mal
Travel Reimbursement: cost of air travel up to the coach class rate. The airfare should be from the provider's home airport to Cedar Rapids International Airport (CID, KCID). Only the base fare and taxes are covered. Documentation of the full itinerary is required.
Lodging: We will provide a list of hotels in the area that offer a University discounted rate. It is preferred that you choose a hotel with a shuttle service. Hotel expenses will be reimbursed up to $100 per night.
Rental Cars: Reasonable rental charges for standard/midsize vehicles are allowed. Additional charges for upgrades are not allowed. If an upgrade is chosen, the quote for the standard rental must still be included in the final pricing. Rental cars will only be reimbursed for commitments longer than six (6) days. If the individual has a rental car, we do not pay for any Ubers.
NOTE: Via the University’s preferred partners, there are discount rates for airfare (Delta), lodging, and car rental (National, Enterprise). We will assist in the above.
START DATE and DURATION:
ASAP after credentialing, which can take up to 3 months
This is a five (5) year contract
(Note: the duration is a contract between us and the facility. Like any other job, if life means you must leave, you just give us 30-day notice).
SCHEDULE:
Hours: M-F 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM (four 10-hour shifts per week)
No nights, weekends, holidays, or call.
Orientation: The Department of Anesthesia will devote an entire day for orientation to any incoming physician, so they become familiar with the use of computers, anesthesia machines, scheduled assignments, workdays, etc.
Probationary Period: This position includes a 10-day working probationary period, after which the University may extend or end the contract; once extended, you can work for an extended period. A 30-day notice is required for early termination.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: MD, DO, MBBS, or equivalent.
Successful completion of an approved residency training program in Anesthesiology. Must be eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa.
On occasion, individuals trained outside of the US and who are certified by an equivalent national certification group (e.g. the Royal College of Anesthetist of Canada, Australia, Ireland, or Great Britain) may be considered if they possess unique skills and/or experience and are eligible for an Iowa Medical License.
Must have a minimum of five (5) years of academic anesthesia experience overall, with at least one (1) year of academic practice within the last five (5) years.
Must have recent experience at a Level 3 or Level 4 trauma center.
Must be comfortable performing general anesthesia cases independently.
Must have experience supervising up to four CRNA rooms simultaneously.
Must be certified by the ABA or be in the certification process.
Supervision of Trainees: Should have experience in mentoring and supervising medical trainees, including residents and SRNAs.
Must be adept at working collaboratively with CRNAs in a team environment.
Experience in placing various lines.
CASE MIX:
ASA 2 and 3.
Regional, Cardiac, thoracic, pediatrics, critical care, bariatrics, and general.
No OB, transplant, or trauma cases.
