  • TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement)
  • LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device)
  • ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation)

(Note: Our program focuses on advanced cardiac surgery and does not perform heart transplants.)

We are also actively recruiting for a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Thoracic Surgeon with expertise in:

  • Lung cancer surgery, including robotic thoracic surgery (RATS) and minimally invasive VATS.
  • Esophageal and foregut disease, such as esophagectomy, hiatal hernia repair, and anti-reflux procedures.
  • Mediastinal mass resections and chest wall reconstruction.

You'll collaborate within a multidisciplinary team alongside specialists in oncology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, and radiology, ensuring comprehensive, patient-centered care for our Veterans.

Your Impactful Role: Duties & Responsibilities

As a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, your major duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing a wide range of thoracic surgical procedures with an emphasis on lung cancer resections, robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS), and esophageal and foregut surgery.
  • Evaluating, diagnosing, and managing patients with thoracic diseases in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Providing comprehensive perioperative and postoperative care.
  • Collaborating in multidisciplinary tumor boards and case review conferences.
  • Working closely with the oncology service in staging and treating thoracic malignancies.
  • Complying with all VA policies regarding documentation, quality assurance, and peer review.
  • Participating in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and clinical research as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fellowship training or equivalent experience in general thoracic surgery with a focus on lung cancer management, robotic thoracic surgery, and esophageal and foregut disease.
  • Demonstrated excellence in collaborative patient care within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Prior experience working within the VA system or academic medical center environment.
  • 5 years of independent surgical practice.
