Exciting Opportunity: Chief, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine - G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center

Job Description

Are you an experienced pathologist with strong leadership skills and a passion for serving our nation's veterans? The G. V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, is seeking a dynamic and accomplished Chief for our Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service.

 

The major duties of a Physician - Chief will include but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Chief of Staff in the tracking, monitoring, reporting, supervision and oversight of: physician productivity, service reports, and special requests for reports, supervision of clinical and administrative staff. 
  • Contribute to the operation of effective and safe laboratories that are in compliance with standards established by the College of American Pathology (CAP), the Joint Commission (JC), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and American Society for Microbiology (ASM).
  • Ensure accurate clinical laboratory test results with turn-around ­times that meet the reasonable and possible expectations of the medical staff and accrediting agencies
  • Exercise administrative, programmatic, clinical, anatomical and academic oversight of pathology and laboratory programs to ensure delivery of quality services
  • Serve as the principal spokesperson and advocate for pathology and laboratory programs within the VA Medical Center
  • Coordinate and integrate anatomical, clinical, and administrative aspects of the programs into a comprehensive package of services to meet the needs of the veteran population.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and retain the highest quality pathology and laboratory staff, and pathology and laboratory support staff, as appropriate
  • Responsible for the completion of all clinical, educational, and administrative duties and requirements.
  • Demonstrated significant levels of clinical expertise and publication record in pathology disciplines. 
  • Experience and knowledge in formulating and reporting diagnostic information.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in a related specialty - Pathology.
  • Possess experience working and managing a Pathology Laboratory.

 

  Position Highlights:

  • Likely starting base salary range: $280,000.00 - $315,000.00
  • Malpractice: Liability protection
  • 50-55 days of annual paid time offer per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
