Job Description

Join our dedicated team at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and provide top-notch outpatient medical services to our nation's Veterans. As a Primary Care Physician, you will manage an assigned panel of adult Veterans, addressing a range of common health concerns, including diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, COPD, and mental health disorders, while also offering comprehensive care for women. Your role will prioritize preventive medicine, with responsibilities extending to Pain Management, Mental Health, and End of Life Care as required. You'll collaborate closely with other healthcare providers and leadership to ensure optimal patient outcomes and continuity of care.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Clinical and Administrative:
    • Provides medical services to Veterans on an outpatient basis in the primary care setting. Provision of inpatient care or Urgent Care may be seldom required and will be then specifically requested of the primary care provider by the supervisor.
    • Provides primary care medicine to an assigned panel of adult Veterans. Veteran populations we serve are mostly male, with diseases consistent with those seen in the general population, namely diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, COPD, mental health disorders, amongst others. Comprehensive primary health care for women is also required. A primary focus of practice is on preventive medicine.
    • Participates in the provision of Pain Management, Mental Health, and End of Life Care to Veterans in the primary care setting as required.
    • Participates in the use of clinical practice guidelines, provision of standard of care to patients, and meets relevant performance measures as mandated by Veterans Health Administration (VHA).
  • Communication:
    • Meets with the Assistant Associate Chief of Primary Care, the Associate Chief of Primary Care (ACOS) and/or the Chief of Staff as necessary to ensure that the goals and objectives of the VAMC are met.
    • Communicates with other healthcare providers, as necessary, to ensure the timely access and continuity of care to Veterans.
  • Education/Training:
    • Participates in the education/training of personnel as requested.
    • Completes required VA education and annual training in a timely fashion.
    • Maintains CME credits as required by state law.
  • Quality Assessment (QA)/ Utilization Review (UR)/ Performance Improvement (PI):
    • Participates in all relevant QA/UR/PI activities as required.
    • Cooperates with, and participates in, Risk Management activities as necessary and as required by the service chief.
  • Recruitment:
    • Meets and evaluates potential physician, NP, and PA candidates as asked by the ACOS or Primary Care.
    • Assists in orientation of new practitioners to the practice.

Pay: 210k-300k Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm
