Chief of Geriatrics and Extended Care Leadership Opportunity

Job Description

The Ralph H Johnson VA Health Care System, Geriatric and Extended Care (GEC) Service is recognized as one of the leading innovative geriatric specialty programs in the country. We have developed the freestanding ACE unit, a unique specialty geriatric interdisciplinary evaluation clinic (GIVE) and a high-risk geriatric home evaluation program (GHELP). There are extensive opportunities for clinician growth and development.
The Chief, GEC, has responsibility for general supervision of clinical or training programs, and overall technical and administrative oversight for operations with the Geriatrics & Extended Care Service.

Administrative Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops, organizes, directs, manages, and implements policies and procedures specific to the GEC Service Line in accordance with facility requirements.
  • Is responsible for developing and directing geriatric educational and training programs; sets training and oversight objectives.
  • Reviews clinic operations and assesses opportunities and successes using data and information oversight to support increased patient outcomes.
  • Attend required leadership meetings and communicate relevant information to the GEC team.

Clinical Duties:

  • The role of the Chief includes the provision of clinical care in geriatric services.

Supervisory Duties:

  • Ensures the administrative and clinical supervision of GEC staff in their professional role, in a variety of inpatient and outpatient program areas and clinics
  • Oversees all geriatric activities within the medical center ensuring that educational and quality geriatric care needs of Veterans are met. To accomplish the functions of this position, close cooperation with leadership, including all other service Chiefs, is required.
