Job Responsibilities
The position involves pre-operative and pre-procedural anesthetic risk assessment for patients at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital, a level 1C VA hospital. Responsibilities include obtaining relevant medical history, performing physical exams, reviewing vital signs, lab values, and other diagnostic studies prior to surgery. Appropriate notes will be recorded in the medical record.
Personally provide direct anesthesia services, including administration of anesthetic agents.
Perform procedures such as peripheral intravenous (IV) placement, arterial catheter placement, central venous catheter placement, and placement of related invasive and non-invasive monitoring devices.
Participate in the Anesthesia pre-operative assessment program.
Provide direct patient care in various locations including the Operating Room, PACU, GI suite, bronchoscopy suite, and others as required (e.g., bedside cardiology procedures).
Expertise, training, or familiarity with complex cardiac procedures (e.g., CABG, TAVR).
Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including CRNAs, surgeons, specialists, nurses, and other providers.
Control postoperative pain relief and consciousness of patients.
Provide post-operative care including ventilator management within recovery areas and the ICU if necessary.
Maintain ACLS, PALS, and BLS certification.
Participate in hospital committees, department, and hospital in-service programs, and acquire/maintain CMEs as required.
Perform FPPEs (Focused Professional Practice Evaluations) and OPPEs (Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations) as needed.
Maintain and uphold medical licensure.
Perform other duties as assigned.
