Outstanding Breast Surgery Position at Carle Foundation Hospital with Academic Appointment through the Carle Illinois College of Medicine in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.
Carle Cancer Institute, a home of Mills Breast Cancer Institute in Urbana, and Carle Illinois College of Medicine are excited to add a breast surgical oncologist to their team. The candidate should have experience with a broad range of breast surgery for benign and malignant breast conditions and when occasionally necessary assist oncology team in Urbana with rare excisional nodal biopsies for other malignancies, feeding tube placement and Port line placement for chemotherapy administration.
The candidate will enjoy a very generous compensation package in a stable, vertically integrated Carle Health System, while practicing in a multi-disciplinary setting with a dedicated breast team and breast cancer navigator. The health system has over > 17,000 employees across several hospitals, covering a population of about 2.5 million people. The candidate would participate in our weekly breast tumor board at Carle Cancer Institute in Urbana, and have strong support from Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Plastic Surgery. Carle Cancer Institute has strong clinical cancer research with an NCORP Grant (PI: Ken Rowland, MD) from the National Cancer Institute and currently > 100 open clinical trials.

The ideal candidate would be a general surgeon with surgical oncology fellowship, or a general surgeon currently in practice with breast surgery being at least 50% of his/her current practice volume and have excellent interpersonal skills for program building. For fellowship trained candidates, both candidates with experience and new graduates are very welcome to apply. The position will include dedicated time for teaching CI COM medical students and General Surgery Residents at Carle’s General Surgery Residency Program. For candidates with a strong academic background, a 0.2 FTE of protected research/academic time would be available. For clinical research, Carle Cancer Institute is a home of Stephens Family Clinical Research Institute with an existing opportunity to support investigator-initiated studies. For basic science and translational research, UIUC Basic Science Cancer Center of Illinois houses over 75 basic and translational cancer investigators bringing in over $50M annually in federal and industry funding grants.
