Neurologist

Summary of Duties and Tasks:

1.   Treat and diagnose brain and central nervous system disorders and diseases.
2. Examine patients suffering from neurological disorders, such as seizure disorders, Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s disease.
3. Works with primary care physicians on a consulting basis when a patient has symptoms that suggest a neurological issue.
4.   Examines patients to determine the cognitive abilities of the patient using a variety of testing modalities such as mathematic problems, memory tests and questions to determine the patient’s mood and language abilities.
5. Examines patients using the performance of various activities to test the patient’s cranial nerve function, motor skills and sensory system.
6. Order diagnostic tests to identify neurological disorders including blood tests and analysis of the patient’s spinal fluid.
7. Orders imaging tests to detect and identify neurological and central nervous system disorders including magnetic resonance imaging and single photon emission computed tomography.
8. Recommend surgical procedures for neurological patients, such as brain stimulation. hormone conditions.
9. Coordinate with surgeons and other doctor specialists for further confirm or corroborate serious clinical diagnosis.
10. Prescribe medications or treatment regimens for hospital inpatients and outpatients.
11. Attend inpatient consultations in areas of specialty.
