Job Description

The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Wexner Medical Center seek an exceptional academic physician with proven leadership skills to serve as the next Chair for the Department of Anesthesiology. This is an exciting time for a new leader to join our forward-thinking organization. The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Wexner Medical Center are undergoing nearly $3 billion in capital improvements to include a new hospital tower, a new Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center, a new interdisciplinary research building and expanding Innovation District on west campus promote and expand cross disciplinary research and ideation. Additionally, a strategic expansion of ambulatory and surgical services is underway, beginning with the newly-opened Outpatient Care New Albany. Two additional sites, Outpatient Care Dublin and Outpatient Care West Campus, are scheduled to open within the next two years. 

The Department of Anesthesiology is composed of 100 physicians, 81 CRNA/CAA’s, 10 clinician scientists, 24 residents, 8 fellows, a large compliment of anesthesia technicians and 12 administrative support staff. Comprised of six academic divisions, Critical Care, Pain, Cardiothoracic, OB, Ambulatory and General Anesthesia, the Department provides comprehensive anesthesia services throughout the health system, including off-site and regional locations. The department is deeply invested in teaching and training, offering four ACGME-accredited fellowships in cardiothoracic anesthesiology, critical care anesthesiology, obstetric anesthesiology, pain medicine and regional anesthesiology as well as additional fellowships in neuroanesthesiology and Executive Leadership and Business in Anesthesiology. An additional ACGME accredited fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology is offered in partnership with Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

The next Chair will build on the accomplishments of the current Department by increasing its presence on the national/international stage through driving innovative research, strengthening the academic mission and bolstering the delivery of leading-edge care to the residents of Columbus and beyond. The successful candidate will possess the knowledge and experience to effectively lead physicians and other health professionals, researchers, and educators while embracing the values of inclusiveness, diversity and excellence.

Qualified candidates must possess an MD, DO or MD/PhD, board certification in Anesthesiology and be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the state of Ohio. Proven and substantial leadership experience in an academic medical center is required, as is the ability to be a collaborative thought-leader in a large, multi-faceted medical center.
